Construction will commence soon on our Norton Summit House! This new home is oriented to capture northern sunlight and the panoramic views across the vineyards towards Morialta Conservation Park and the Hills beyond.

A fireplace can serve as the heart of a home — a quiet gathering place that brings warmth, comfort, and connection. More than a source of heat, it becomes a grounding focal point around which family life unfolds, marking moments of stillness, storytelling, and shared presence.

We often design fireplaces with surrounding thermal mass walls using materials like rammed earth, stone, or concrete. These elements not only absorb and gently re-radiate warmth, enhancing comfort and energy efficiency, but also define the space with a sense of solidity and natural texture — reinforcing the hearth as both a physical and emotional anchor in the home

We are currently designing and documenting a new home on Kangaroo Island, set within farmland framed by dense pockets of native scrub and trees. The design draws inspiration from the simple, utilitarian forms of rural sheds, with a restrained palette of corrugated galvanised cladding and timber.

The house is shaped to form a central courtyard, which provides shelter from prevailing winds while creating a more intimate outdoor living space — a deliberate contrast to the expansive, open landscape beyond. A perforated galvanised skin wraps the building and its verandahs, with sliding screens that can be adjusted to control sun, wind, and privacy throughout the seasons.
