About Us

Founded in 2015 by Ben Mountford and Martin Williamson, the practice was born from a shared desire to focus on finely scaled, people-oriented architecture — projects that support the way individuals, families, and communities live, learn, and connect.

With a depth of experience across a broad range of architectural disciplines, Ben and Martin bring strong foundations in design, project delivery, and the resolution of complex architectural challenges developed over years working across diverse sectors of the industry.

Together with Peter, Renee, and Braiden, our team brings a broad and complementary skill set to each project. We offer the flexibility and expertise to support clients through every stage of the architectural process – from design, through construction documentation, to on-site coordination and final handover.

Peter Leijs Architect

Peter is motivated by a passion for sustainable design and a commitment to creating architecture that is site-responsive, pragmatic, and efficient. He believes that good design should be accessible to all and has the power to positively shape people’s lives.

Prior to joining Mountford Williamson Architecture in 2019, Peter gained experience across a range of architectural practices of varying scales and spent time working on-site with builders. This hands-on experience has shaped a holistic understanding of the design and construction process, strengthening his ability to bridge concept and execution.

With a detail-oriented mindset and a strong grasp of construction, Peter approaches each project with a focus on delivering thoughtful, efficient design—tailored to the site and reflective of the individual character of its owners.

Outside the studio, Peter enjoys time in the garden, cooking with friends and family, and exploring his creativity through music, painting, and projects around the home. His interests reflect a broader passion for sustainability, conservation, and hands-on making

Renee Lee Architect

Renee sees architecture as a collaborative process—one that involves crafting thoughtfully considered places with purpose and care. She places a strong importance on designing housing that endures—spaces that can evolve and adapt as our lives change over time.

With experience across both small studios and large practices, Renee brings strong construction documentation and project administration skills to each project. Her time living and working in tropical climates has shaped a deep awareness of detailing for the elements, such as water flows and air circulation. She has a passion for ergonomics, systems, and the quiet logic of well-ordered design. Fascinated by how things come together, Renee strives for simplicity and clarity in every detail.

In her spare time, Renee enjoys preserving and fermenting food—a hands-on extension of her love for process and care in making.

Braiden Sanders Graduate of Architecture

Braiden is driven by a love of the Australian landscape and a passion for creating site-responsive architecture that is deeply connected to its place. He believes that great design is shaped not only by the physical qualities of a site, but also by the unique character and needs of the people who will inhabit it.

Before joining Mountford Williamson Architecture in 2021, Braiden worked at a large practice where he gained experience across a diverse range of project types. His design approach seeks to balance beauty with functionality, delivering spaces that are both thoughtful and enduring.

Outside of work, Braiden enjoys spending time in the Adelaide Hills where he can be found trail running, cycling, or climbing with friends.

Ben Mountford Co-founding Director

Ben believes that meaningful architecture begins with a deep understanding of those who will use the space, together with a thoughtful response to the physical, cultural, and environmental context of each project.

With over 25 years of experience across a wide range of countries and project types, Ben brings a rich and diverse design perspective. His work spans from major city-shaping projects—like airports and large-scale masterplans—to finely crafted renovations and smaller-scale additions. He approaches each project as a chance to explore ideas, spark innovation, and arrive at a distinctive, considered outcome. Ben is hands-on throughout the entire process, working closely with clients from initial concept through to completion.

Whenever he has the chance, Ben finds inspiration exploring hills and suburbs of Adelaide on his bike, and making noise with his band.

Martin Williamson Co-founding Director

Martin brings a thoughtful balance of creativity and pragmatism to his design work, valuing close collaboration with clients and project teams as essential to achieving successful outcomes.

With a multidisciplinary background across several architectural firms, Martin established his own practice in 2013 before co-founding Mountford Williamson Architecture in 2015. This marked a shift in focus toward residential, education, and community-based projects—areas where he continues to make a meaningful impact.

Environmental sustainability is a core principle that informs every design decision Martin makes. Equally important to him is the creation of high-quality spaces where natural light, volume, indoor comfort, and a strong connection to the outdoors are carefully considered. Martin is driven by the belief that architecture should enrich the lives of those who live, learn, and work within it.

Martin enjoys escaping to his converted dairy on the coast and spending time revegetating the surrounding property.
